Reminisce Dev Log #2

In this update, I managed to work on a house model for the game. It's nearly complete and is just missing some things like glass and some of the other objects that can be seen from the screenshots from within Maya. After I had initially conducted a  playtest for my game I came to some conclusions. The game seemed rather enjoyable but I felt like it needed a bit more to it. I had to keep in mind that my game isn't necessarily focused on the programming aspect but rather the 3D artwork. From this, I decided to add a bit more mechanics that were pretty straight forward and played around with the others. As of right now, I added a 'Pick Up' objects mechanic to the game that allows for certain blocked pathways to be cleared. The other thing I wanted to add but ended up scrapping was the idea of adding some sort of countdown timer to the game. Mainly because I was thinking that since you're waiting for your crew to come back that it would make sense to add some sort of timer that you are sort of racing against. It would've been a long timer but I ended up scrapping that idea as I felt it was too much. I'd rather let the player experience the game at their own pace rather than rush them. Playtesting my game really helped me sort of narrow down a a bit more of what I want to accomplish with my final product. I want to work more with the lighting to sort of create that eerie ambience that horror games are known to have. Along with playing with the audio and working it into the lighting so that they could play off each other. I'm learning to work with what I have and that I can really go far with just a bit of simplicity. I don't need to make something necessarily complex to say.

One of my biggest changes was probably the house model. I play tested a bit more recently and had players compare the old house layout to my new one. They all preferred the newest one and it wasn't even close. The reason why I changed it was because I felt conflicted when I was making the house initially. It felt off and not what I wanted to go for. I wanted something that felt like there was a lot to sort of explore and the old model just wasn't giving that feeling. I had issues with my Game Designer side and my 3D Animator side of myself. So I had to scrap the entire model and start from scratch. But it was definitely worth it and so far I think it's my biggest change after some playtesting. The rest of the mechanics are being kept the same so there's not much to highlight there.

From here on out, it will mainly be updates to the games 3D Models. This includes things like the interior modeling of the house. (The kitchen, bathrooms, and bedrooms, etc.) There may be updates to future mechanics but it's not likely thus far.
